Day 1 Convective Outlook
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0300 PM CDT Sun Mar 29 2020

Valid 292000Z - 301200Z

...THERE IS A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS PARTS OF
WESTERN NY AND NORTH-CENTRAL PA...

...SUMMARY...
Isolated strong to severe thunderstorms with a threat of damaging
winds and hail will remain possible through about 6 PM EDT across
parts of north-central Pennsylvania into western New York.

...20Z Update...
Severe hail/wind probabilities have been removed behind a broken
line of storms extending across parts of western NY and
north-central PA. Isolated strong to severe wind gusts and perhaps
marginally severe hail will continue to be possible with this
activity for the next 1-2 hours (through about 22Z), before a
weakening trend ensues due to very limited instability across
central NY/PA.

The prospect for convective initiation farther south into
MD/DC/VA/NC this afternoon remains unclear. Destabilization is
occurring across this region as a warm front lifts northward across
MD and the Delmarva Peninsula, and the environment remains
conditionally favorable for severe storms. But, a low-level
inversion may continue to prove hostile to storm development given
only modest large-scale forcing for ascent. Will maintain the
Marginal Risk across this area given there is still some chance for
a storm or two to form. A seemingly better chance for initiation is
probably located across parts of VA to the southern Delmarva
Peninsula where greater instability is present.

.PREV DISCUSSION... /ISSUED 1044 AM CDT Sun Mar 29 2020/

...Eastern OH/western PA into western NY this afternoon...
A corridor of surface heating and resultant shallow convection has
established across eastern and northeastern OH as of late morning.
Additional destabilization is expected northeastward into western
PA/NY this afternoon, in advance of the surface cold front now
moving into western OH. Afternoon surface temperatures in the 60s
to low 70s, with boundary-layer dewpoints of 58-60 F, will support a
corridor of potentially moderate buoyancy (MLCAPE near 1000 J/kg)
from eastern OH/western PA into western NY this afternoon. The
shallow convection this morning will likely deepen through the
afternoon and evolve into discrete cells and small clusters with
supercells possible, given the long hodographs with strong
deep-layer vertical shear. Wind profiles will tend toward more
unidirectional with straight hodographs in the warm sector where the
buoyancy resides, which suggests that damaging winds/large hail will
be the main threats before the convection moves east and northeast
of the primary zone of destabilization later this afternoon. See MD
for additional information.

...MD southward into NC this afternoon/evening...
With the primary midlevel trough passing northwest of this area,
forcing for ascent will be weak/shallow at best along the surface
cold front which will begin to cross the Appalachians/Blue Ridge by
mid-late afternoon. The remnant wedge front should erode northward
through the afternoon across VA potentially into MD, with moderate
buoyancy (MLCAPE in excess of 1500 J/kg) and strong deep-layer
vertical shear providing a conditional supercell environment in the
warm sector. Storm initiation is quite uncertain and storm coverage
will likely be rather sparse at best, but any persistent storms will
pose a threat for large hail/damaging gusts this afternoon into this
evening.

Good to keep a bag packed for each family member with toiletries, undies, books, emergency contact phone list, prescriptions, glasses, pen and paper, cell phone, battery cell charger, loving note

That might take a while can I just give them my mr number many drs are going to my chart which seems to have everything on it from way back that people may have forgotten could be a good time to sign up it's very easy

Ice on a phone is your next of kin to be notified in an emergency.

Pro tip, put all information in a envelope clearly marked and place on front of refrigerator on on back of front door. First responders will most likely check these places and take with them. And place in car also

I have the ICE listing in my phone, all info on front of refrigerator AND a list of meds and doctors in my purse.

Thank you for the information I did not know this.

I even have my moms in my phone...BE SAFE โค

Very good idea, thank you.

Excellent advice!

Fabulous info!!

In. Case. of. Emergency. ICE

What’s an ICE file on my phone? Thanks.

What happens if my mother needs to go? She has Dementia/Parkinson's and I'm her care giver and POA.

Thanks great idea I always carry one due to allergies

Thank you Kate ๐Ÿ™Very good idea Stay safelโค

Sorry but if my son God forbid was to go I'll be damned if I'm not going with him.. they will have to arrest me

Good advice... keep copies on hand for the providers....

How will they access the ICE info if you need an unlock code?

Can parents go with minor child, how does that work

Thank you, good idea!

Great idea!
